Win loads with the Getaway Gallery Photography Competition

Enter Getaway Gallery each month to stand a chance of winning great prizes sponsored by Canon. Monthly winners will automatically be entered for the annual prizes below. The 2011 Photographer of the Year will be announced in our January 2012 issue.

First prize:
River Hotels Three-nights’ accommodation for two people at each of River Hotels’ establishments: Tenahead Mountain Lodge, Royal Guesthouse, Bushman Sands, Tsitsikamma Lodge, Mansfield Game Reserve and Halyards Hotel, as well as game drives, spa treatments and cruises, and certain meals. Value: R30 000 This prize also includes a Canon camera body and lens worth R35 000.

Second prize:
Will of Africa Prize details: Four-night camping trip for two people to Mana Pools National Park in Northern Zimbabwe, including all meals (unless otherwise specified), the use of an off-road trailer and a fully equipped expedition vehicle, camping equipment and a qualified photography guide. Either fly to Harare or spend two nights on the road with a guide to go there and back. Value: R21 000 or R25 000 (depending on whether the winner chooses to fly or drive).

Third prize:
Umngazi River Bungalows & Spa Five nights out of season for two people sharing at Umngazi River Bungalows & Spa on the beautiful Wild Coast, including accommodation, three meals a day, guided walks, Umngazi’s signature spa treatment, a spa bath for two people and a sunset cruise. Value: R12 000

Monthly prizes:

• No more than five entries a person a month.
• Include your full name, address and contact details.
• Submit your camera make, model, lens, digital/film details, camera settings and any other applicable information (flash, beanbag, etc).
• Give your photograph a title and describe in no more than 100 words how you got the shot.

Getaway Gallery rules

Images are judged on their technical and artistic merits. We favour natural-looking scenes or objects that have something in common with our editorial subject matter.

1. Only photographs that were taken in Africa and its islands will be considered.
2. To qualify for inclusion, monthly winners must supply high-resolution photos when contacted. (A3 at 300dpi is ideal.)
3. Each entry must be accompanied by the camera make, model, lens, digital/film details, camera settings and any other applicable information (flash, beanbag, etc). Give your photograph a title and write a short paragraph (no more than 100 words) on how and where you took it.
4. Send your entries (maximum five a month) with your name, postal address, telephone number and email address to gallery@getaway.co.za.
5. The Getaway Gallery competition is aimed primarily at promoting amateur photography in Africa. Therefore, Getaway reserves the right to use the images featured on its website and in any compilation publication for no extra payment.
